Θέλημα is not “the Greek for will.” It is very specifically Koine Greek for God’s will, Koine being the Greek used by the authors of the New Testament. It is the word used in the “Thy will be done” part of the Lord’s Prayer (and in 59 other verses of the Bible). It is “will” in broadly the same sense as the Islamic Inshallah, “God willing.” Thayer’s Lexicon describes it as “a word purely Biblical and ecclesiastical” and Strong’s defines it as “a determination (properly, the thing), i.e. (actively) choice (specially, purpose, decree; abstractly, volition) or (passively) inclination.” What it definitely isn’t is “the Greek for will.”
